West Village in the Fall

Walking through the streets of New York always fascinates me. In the fall, everything becomes cloaked in a warm amber glow. To me, the contrast of rich old architecture against a blue, fall sky is the most beautiful thing in the world. The best neighborhood for observing the seasons will always be the West Village. Something about those streets between West 14th St. and Houston is magical. Somehow, the lighting is different there. Whether it be the old brownstones, rich in history, or maybe the trees lining the street, there is something that captures the light in a different way.

In the fall, this beautiful neighborhood is somehow even more spectacular. In the morning the sun echos through the narrow streets, illuminating the thin orange leaves still clinging to the trees. The beautiful buildings seem like artifacts of a dream as they are cast in hazy autumn light. The small cafes found on most street corners feel as though they’ve been forgotten by time, as their owners sweep off the sidewalks and display hand drawn signs outside their doors. Theres a certain magic about the fall. New York itself becomes transformed, but the West Village perhaps intensifies the transformations that occur through the whole city. When autumn approaches everyone wants to curl up by a fireplace and sip hot drinks with their friends and family. The West Village offers that environment. It feels safe and secure.
