The Chill of NYC

One of the worst experiences I had in New York came from being unprepared.  I was living in Vancouver, going to university, and spending whatever spare money I had on fashion. So when my mom told me that she had been given an opportunity to attend a conference in New York and that she’d love to take me with her, well, I was ecstatic! I had always wanted to visit New York and just be in an environment where fashion was as important to everyone else as it was to me.  Also, my mother’s company was giving her free accommodation right in Times Square.

When we arrived, it was everything I ever imagined. I was ready to soak up the culture of New York. We were traveling in March, and although I had heard the east coast was a chilly area, I had no idea how cold it was actually going to be.  So the first day we were there, I woke up early and took a cab to see where the best NYC shopping was.  I got off at Herald Square, because there was a huge Forever 21 as well as an H&M.  My morning was absolutely amazing: great shopping, great clothes, and great fun.  At least it was until the chill set in.  I was freezing when I was outside, but whenever I was indoors I felt fine.  Little did I know how much of a toll those few moments of chill can take on your body. After that shopping experience, I was deathly sick with bronchitis and I could not leave my bed for the rest of the three days we were there.  My New York dream was a fantasy, and in reality I was only able to experience it for a few short hours. It was so tragic, but next time I’ll pack a more appropriate wardrobe!
