Upon my arrival in the JFK airport, I was nervous about the New York environment as I was coming from a suburban area. My parents had paid for my airplane tickets as an early Christmas present so I had that covered. My long time friend from New York University was allowing me to stay at his apartment in the Upper East Side. I took a taxi to his address and I was greeted almost immediately by him and his friends. They were extremely delighted to have me as a guest. After a couple of Christmas Eve and Christmas parties New Years was approaching.
As a kid I have only seen on T.V. what New Years in New York City was and this year I was going to be part of it. I was completely ecstatic. On New Year’s Eve, we made a line for the free concert at around 6:15 PM and it was already crowded. We still managed to be in Times Square and it was magical! So much happiness and camaraderie. The music was fantastic and I had a blast. Thousands of people-along with myself-counted down as the ball dropped and it came. 2012 marked the beginning of a fresh start and I was glad I was able to spend it in a magical place like New York City.
