Make the Big Apple Your Cool Apple

This summer has definitely been one for the record books in New York City. Saying we are a “melting pot” has taken on a whole new meaning! On the days when the heat is just awful to deal with, I go to the movies. As a Jamaica, Queens resident I take advantage of $6 Tuesdays at the Jamaica Multiplex. I get to see a movie, save some cash, and stay cool all at the same time. But what about the other days of the week? Well, any day is a great day to pay a visit to your local library. I have a toddler nephew who is fascinated with books about animals, so I go to the library and pick up a few books to keep him entertained. Again, free air conditioning!
The best place to be during one of NYC’s heat waves is Manhattan, specifically Times Square. In that short cluster of city streets you can see wax celebrities at Madame Tussaud’s, extremely weird artifacts in Ripley’s Believe it Or Not, or stock up on Yankees gear at the club house. The wax museum grants you at least 2.5 hours in their well air conditioned facility. It can be a little pricey for a visit, but its the closest you’ll probably get to the celebrities you’ll “meet” inside. Fire up that Metrocard and just travel the subway! (All trains have air conditioning so take advantage of it!)
