Whenever I visit a new city, I always search for the best sweet shop. For New York City, I found it at 200 Columbus Avenue: Magnolia Bakery. The assortment of their mouthwatering desserts makes me so happy that I want to order it all. From the vividly colored cupcakes to their creamy cheesecakes, nothing fails my taste. The Magnolia Bakery shops (which are scattered all throughout Manhattan) are charming with their pastel-colored walls that makes you think of little kids birthday parties but what makes it even more adorable is that the adults lining up to buy the cupcakes look like little kids waiting for their cotton candies. Everyone seems to want everything in the glass cases! The cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery are not the cupcakes you see every day. Every cupcake is light yet not airy. Combine this light cake with the full flavor of the frosting and then it s like a glimpse of heaven on earth. Truly, one cupcake is enough to satisfy the hunger but not my sweet tooth cravings. My personal cupcake favorites are the Red Velvet Cupcake, Caramel Cupcake with meringue buttercream and the addicting combination of the sweet and tangy, the Lemon Cupcake. Their mini-cheesecakes, especially the Caramel Pecan is something I will never forget. The perfect marriage of the cream cheese and the frosting plus the thick texture of the cake is like food sent by the gods. This is, by far, the best cheesecake I’ve had. I don’t mind taking all the calories because having a cupcake at Magnolia Bakery means finding an oasis in the world-size desert of New York.
