Every year the gang and I head to New York. We live right outside of the city so we may as well be from there. One of our friends opened a pub a few years ago, The Bitter Pub. It’s on 170 Avenue A. Once we get there, we set up the music, lots of classic typical Irish music. The house beer is dyed green. Saint Patrick’s Day is one of the few days there is no cover charge and Happy Hour is extended into the night. We watch soccer and play darts throughout the night. The last few years we have had a dancing leprechaun on the bar. One of us gets a little liquored up and dressed in the green jacket, pointy shoes and hat and dances for the customers. The people love it! It s this kind of atmosphere that makes Saint Patrick’s Day a laugh and howl. We help our friend hold competitions, like who can maintain the longest Irish accent or name that actor all with an Irish theme for the night. When all is said and done, we help close up but for us the drinking doesn t stop. We usually hold up in the bar and find a place to crash till the morning before heading back home.
