I’ve lived in New York for a long time, so I’ve had some great experiences. That being said, I’ve also had some not-so-great. The worst one that I can think of is the time I went to a midtown bar and got robbed in less than 10 minutes! Said bar is no longer in existence, and probably for a good reason.
I’m usually very vigilant with my belongings so how my wallet was lifted is still a mystery to me. Nonetheless, someone with really sticky fingers was able to dip his hand into my messenger bag without me feeling it. I went to pay for my first drink of the night and saw that I had no wallet and obviously was unable to purchase the drink. Instead of enjoying my evening, I had to go to a midtown precinct and report the stolen goods. The next day, I was called by the police stating that my IDs were found, but not any money or my credit cards. I had closed my cards after everything had happened, but all this caused so much hassle and mental upset that I never wanted to visit another bar again. While I was never one to typify New York City as a difficult place, after this experience I changed my tune.
